Want to opt for something other than a classic Sri Lankan chicken recipe and make a fancy dish for your next family dinner? We’ve got you covered with this stunning cabbage chicken rolls recipe that will leave your guests impressed! The classical version of the recipe calls for savoy cabbage, but you can use the cabbage you find at the local supermarkets here as well.

Ingredients (serves four people)

  •  1 cabbage
  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 1 branch of fresh rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices of chicken ham
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion
  • 150g cream cheese
  • Fresh herbs such as oregano and thyme

Method

 Remove 12 leaves from the cabbage and carefully wash and blanch them for about two minutes in boiling hot water that has been seasoned with salt. As for the remaining cabbage, cut those into thin strips. Chop the rosemary finely as well.

Then, wash the chicken and season it with salt, pepper and rosemary. Wrap the seasoned chicken breast with 2 slices of chicken ham. Then, using 3 cabbage leaves for one roll, wrap the chicken neatly and secure the roll with kitchen yarn so nothing falls apart.

In a pan with some hot oil, brown the cabbage rolls and spice it with salt and pepper as needed. Place the rolls in a fire proof form and add in ½ litre of water. Bake it in a preheated oven for 30 minutes on 390F.

To make the sauce, finely chop the onions and fry it along with some cabbage strips. Spice it with salt and pepper before adding the cream cheese with herbs. Allow it to melt under low heat, mixing thoroughly all the time until it comes to a boil. Check the seasoning and adjust as needed.
